The Society established the Robert M. Odell Endowed Scholarship Fund in 1987 with a gift of $71,000, primarily the result of contributions from hundreds of private sector companies in support of the 1986 GFOA Conference in Los Angeles. The scholarship honors Robert M. Odell, former City Treasurer of Los Angeles.

To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time upper division or graduate student in a public administration major and must remain in good academic standing. Strong consideration is giving to students emphasizing finance and first-generation college students.

UPDATE

The CSU Foundation has informed us that at its November 16, 2006 meeting, the CSU Foundation Board of Governors approved a distribution of $6,400 to support four scholars in 2007-08. The Foundation will be forwarding the 2007-08 scholarship information to the California State college campuses shortly.The following four students are recipients of scholarships during the FY 2006/07 academic year.

Lara MacNabe San Francisco State University

Lara is a full-time student pursuing a Masters in Public Administration for a career in educational program evaluation and policy research. She holds a 3.67 G.P.A. A former high school science teacher, she wishes to provide feedback on educational programs to increase their effectiveness, thus providing better educational opportunities for our youth which will have a significant impact on the nation’s future.

Zhangbeier Peng, California State University, East Bay

Zhangbeier is a first generation college student completing her Bachelor’s with a desire to continue her education to pursue a Master’s degree. Her future goals include include utilizing her education to become a manager with a financial services corporation in America or China, where she could integrate American economic standards into businesses in a third world country.

Josephine Windisch Sonoma State University

Josephine, a first generation college student, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University. She is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Sonoma State. She is working her way through school as full-time preschool teacher while attending classes in the evenings. Josephine is a staunch activist within her community.

Terry Quadros, California State University, Stanislaus

Terry is a first generation college student obtaining a Masters in Public Administration. She had the courage to leave a volatile marriage. She has a 3.67 G.P.A. and volunteers in her community with the California Superior Court, Leadership Stockton Alumni Association, and Habitat for Humanity of San Joaquin County.
