Ranging from Paso Robles to the north and Solvang to the south, the Central Coast chapter includes 12 cities, a health care district, and a water authority. Spread across San Luis Obispo County and Northern Santa Barbara County our area offers the best in easy, coastal living. In addition to the fine quality of life, our economy is vibrant. Catering to small and medium-sized companies the growth trend is toward clean, high-tech businesses. Commercial space activities and the aerospace industry at Vandenberg Air Force Base represent a major economic force for the future. Tourism and leisure activities are our number one attractions. These attractions offer many great beach communities; fine wines and winery tours throughout the area; Hearst Castle to the north; a Danish community to the south; and, the award winning “Best Downtown” in San Luis Obispo.

The Central Coast chapter is keenly aware of our role in the development of the area’s economy and quality of life. The Chapter meets bi-monthly a Rosa’s Ristorante Italiano in Pismo Beach. Meetings are usually held on the 2nd Thursday, every other month. Our meetings feature a lively round-table discussion on issues, concerns, and occasionally, a presentation from a public speaker. Attendance at our meetings is exceptional with 80 to 85 percent member representation. We welcome our staff members at the meetings to promote CSMFO and enhance staff’s understanding of the big picture.

The meeting feature discussions on a blend of technical and professional topics. I usually hear a number of comments from attendees about the usefulness of sharing information, concepts, and techniques. I encourage all Central Coast cities, special districts, and member agencies to attend the Chapter’s meetings on a regular basis. It is a great way to keep current of hot issues, get answers to critical issues, and commiserate with your peers on tough items. The meetings dovetail exceptionally well with participation in the CSMFO e-mail group. If you are in the area stop by and say “Hi” and be sure to try our world famous Bar B Que.
